Program Details
Overview: The bill creates the Veteran Family Resource Program to address social determinants of health affecting veterans and their families. It will provide care coordination, connection to benefits, and community resource engagement so veterans and their families have access to the services and resources they need.
Veterans’ Family Resource Program
Every Veterans’ Integrated Service Network will have a family coordinator serving in a VA’s medical center as the knowledgeable contact connecting survivors, families, and caregivers to the available community resources when VA programs cannot meet their needs. Family coordinators will assess needs and help veterans, families, caregivers, and survivors access and navigate public and private resources.
Program Assessment
The bill requires the development of program performance metrics and surveys of disabled veterans and families to assess unmet needs. This survey will be conducted within a year of the Act’s enactment and repeated at least once every five years.
