Program Details
Overview: The bill establishes a grant program to help providers integrate caregiver support services within the respite care they provide to family caregivers. Services include providing information about available services; help with access to services; individual counseling; support groups; caregiver training; and respite care.
Services must be provided in an accessible format.
Entities eligible for grants include state or local government agencies; nonprofit organization; an area agency on aging; providers of multipurpose senior centers; institutions of higher education; and tribal organizations.
Family Caregiver
Eligible family caregivers include an adult family member (or another individual) who is an informal provider of in-home and community care to an older individual or to an individual of any age with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders, or an older relative caregiver.
Older Relative Caregiver
Older relative caregiver means a caregiver who is age 55 or older, lives with and is the informal and primary care provider of in-home and community care to a child or an individual with a disability. In the case of a caregiver of an individual with a disability, an older relative caregiver is a parent, grandparent, or other relative by blood, marriage, or adoption, of the individual with a disability.
