Program Details

Overview: This bill improves the appeals and review process for the VA Caregiver Support Program (CSP). It permits independent external review of denied caregiver applications. The VA must also consider external assessment findings before issuing final decisions about the amount of personal care a veteran requires or revoking assistance. The bill directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to evaluate eligibility determinations under the program.

This bill defines family caregiver as a family member who is a caregiver of an eligible veteran.
