Program Details
Overview: This bill provides services and support to family caregivers about to retire or return to work. It expands support and assistance provided under the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It provides support to family caregivers upon discharge or dismissal from the program and as they transition from caregiving.
Extension of Health Benefits
The bill extends medical care coverage for primary family caregivers to 180 days after they lose their designation as a caregiver. The VA also provides bereavement counseling to family caregivers following the death of a veteran receiving care under the program.
Other Fees and Benefits
This program reimburses the caregiver for fees they incur to obtain certifications or re-licensure needed for reemployment, up to a maximum of $1,000.
